It's cool to be you!
March 2nd, National Special Event Day, Est. 2011
What is the ''It's cool to be You!'' National Day?
You know how most days your mind is filled with thoughts about what you can do better? Or what you've done wrong and need to fix? Or habits you need to change?
What if you had a day where you gave yourself permission to focus on the good things about yourself and others?
This is it!
This is a day dedicated to the affirmation of your "cool" factor. We all have a cool factor! It is that unique set of attributes that attracts others to you, makes life fun, and literally puts you in your peak performance zone. This applies to our personal and professional lives and needs to be celebrated EVERY day but just in case you forget, we've created a day registered with the National Special Events registry as a reminder.
There has never been a more important time to pursue your passion. That little voice inside that says "you were born for great things" is not fibbing. You were! If you don't pursue the dream in your heart the world around you "feels" it.
Conversely, if you do pursue being your best self, following your heart's desire, and continuing to self-actualize....you are a world changer!
Imagine if you could quit wondering if people "got it" about who you are and you just started being your true self...kind of like getting comfortable in your own skin. No more trying to change yourself based on a standard others imposed or those you adopted at an early age to fit in...what would that look like? What would you do differently? More importantly, who would you BE? Would you be your best self? Would you be following your dreams?
What does it mean to you?
No matter where you are on your life's journey, this is the day to notice, document, develop, and share those things that are cool about you. But don't stop there. With intention and purpose...on THIS day, notice what is cool about others. Who knows? It could get to be a habit. Or a movement. Or a way of life!
Start practicing today
The practice of the "It's Cool to Be You!" day starts with you but does not end with you. This is not to give you bragging rights but rather to ground you in your gift mix.
What is your gift mix? It is the synthesis of your God-given strengths, your personal history, your experience, knowledge, and skills.
Why is being grounded important? Grounded people are balanced, emotionally, physically, personally, and professionally. They are clear minded and focused. If this is an environment you want to create, this is a great place to start.
WE ARE ALL
MEANT TO SHINE
"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

Basic Youth Conflicts produced a guide in the 70's (my formative years) called "Discerning Positive Character Qualities from Negative Behavior Traits". I've used for the over two decades. It has been critical insight and perspective that has helped me work within teams, volunteer groups, my children, my family and community.

“Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ''WOW!!! What a ride!”

Food for thought!
No matter what your age..."You get to keep all the learning from the ages you've ever been." Madeline L'Engle
Statistics show that Boomers feel 14 years younger than they are and feel the age of 74 is old. My mom, Bette Laughrun, at 74 is changing the world and inspiring women to define their own outrageous life. I have to keep up!
Milton S. Hershey was 40 and bankrupt. He went on to build an 80 million dollar empire, a school for orphans and established the town of Hershey, PA by the time he was 80. (He came up with the recipe for creamy caramels you enjoy today and sold to Lancaster Caramel Company because it wasn't chocolate.)
I was inspired by Hershey at 38 and got started pursuing what was on my heart. I spent the first 38 years of my life waging an internal battle with a message I got very early in my life that is was not OK to be me and worked very hard to be the person I was expected to be. It's is stressful to try to be someone you are not!
My story: The perfect storm of events transpired in 1999 . I finally got sick and tired of the struggle. I decided to do the things I was good at, fun to do, and hang out with my *favorite people. The last 11 years has been quite the ride! Guess what! The Outrageous Life is there for you too. Simple but not easy, it's all a matter of belief and choice.
*favorite people: positive, fun, forward focused, service oriented, grateful, friendly.... the list goes on but you get the drift.
My hope for you is that you will join me in the pursuit to be more YOU!
Wisdom for the ages...
"You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know.
And YOU are the one who'll decide where to go."
"Today you are You, that is truer than true.
There is no one alive who is Youer than You."
