Best Practices for Using Social Media
on Wednesday, April 27, 2011
Everywhere I go people are talking about social media. By now, you’ve developed some opinions of your own.
One of the biggest issues seems to be the practicality of integrating social media into their existing marketing strategy — specifically Facebook and LinkedIn. The second biggest concern is how to measure it’s effectiveness, or ROI.
Follow the money trail…
on Monday, April 18, 2011
The trending topic of conversation this past few weeks in the crowds I’ve been networking in has been all about how to make more money and find new opportunities.
I am convinced the answer is what it has been for a long time…follow the money trail. Somewhere money is changing hands and you can be part of it.
Off-Limit Topics (or what NOT to do at a networking group)
on Wednesday, March 30, 2011This morning I attended a networking group as a guest of a client. In the general networking time prior to the meeting one of the members started talking about politics and said some rather negative things about one of our current politicians. Strange. Even though I didn’t completely disagree with this guy, I felt embarrassed, uncomfortable and a little bit offended. After a few sentences I said, “you know, I came here today to talk about business. I’d rather not discuss politics.” He kept up the jabs, so I wandered off to fill up my coffee cup. It was a very awkward moment and I’ve been wondering why ever since.

Reaching out, reaching up!
on Tuesday, March 29, 2011Wanna grow?
1. Reach out and reach up!
2. Celebrate what is cool about you.
3. Honor the cool factor in others.
4. Connect!
If you’ve been following my blog for long (or if you have taken time to peruse our past posts) you know that I am a huge fan of professional development as a business growth strategy. Periodic ventures out of my own backyard (which is the Portland, OR area) in the last few years of travel* have been catalytic in the opportunities and awakenings. My most recent trip was no disappointment. Besides sitting under the teaching of current guru, Brendon Burchard at the Experts Academy learning how to increase impact and influence sharing your message for 4 days, I got to rub shoulders with peeps who are face-forward on the journey of building their empires.
Dealing With Entrepreneurial Isolation
on Thursday, March 10, 2011
Solo entrepreneurs and people who work from home can sometimes suffer from a feeling of isolation. Our clients often tell us that they feel like they are on their own and feel remote or lonely when they do not have regular, face-to-face contact with others over the course of their business day. One of the best ways to reduce these feelings is to regularly participate in networking groups where you can grow as a professional, build strong relationships and fight the sense of loneliness and isolation that come with the territory.

Spring is In The Air
on Monday, February 14, 2011Last Saturday morning I looked out on our balcony and saw a beautiful little Crocus blooming in our planter. Ahh, Spring must be just around the corner. Given the difficult winter we’ve had in most parts of the U.S., I think that is terrific news! The promise of Spring brings the promise of growth, new life, and brighter days.
